This reminds me of the nights in Japan when I would study. My desk was right by the door, and since in Japan there is no central air, my sliding door was always open.
Our apartment was right by an ocean-side highway in Hitachi, Japan. We were on the slope of a mountainside, and the waves would filter naturally into the apartment. The beach was only a ten-minute walk away. The highway was in-between. And the crickets that crept into the apartment would be chirping in the background. It was beautiful to hear and experience every day, and it will always be remembered.
