Greenwich Village Apartment
Sounds from inside Patricia O'Grady's Greenwich Village Apartment. She lived in the same walk-up apartment since 1955, and paid only $28 a month when she passed away at 84 in March, 2018. Her apartment and had no central heat, hot water, or shower. The apartment had only one gas lightbulb, and most nights there was only candlelight. A friend, Edith Meeks, recalled: “I remember a Siamese cat and a wood-burning stove, racks of costumes and a living room that she used as a rehearsal space.” Sounds include making tea, rain against the window, pages turning, children playing outside, and a fireplace crackling.
