Evening Solitude
It would be a lonesome night if not for the company of your favorite cat. He sits across the room, content to be in your presence as you work. His loud rumbling purr is the only vocalization to be heard. The soft crackling of your fireplace persists on its own. The shuffling of papers and the scratch of your pencil on them persists because you make it so. The wind and rain batter at your roof and window as well as the trees outside. Occasionally you are distracted by a flash of thunder, followed by the roll of distant thunder. It doesn't irritate you, though you could do without the passing of cars every now and then. Who even drives in this kind of weather? Honestly.
You keep working through it all. After all, it's such a good night for it.
